Imbolc
Imbolc the half-way point between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox and is the beginning of the astrological new year. It’s the first hint that spring is around the corner. Although we might be raring to go at the first sign of sunlight and warmer weather, this is still a time of rest and reflection as winter ands and we transition forward, so commit to your intentions before taking action.
In mythology Imbolc is a celebration of the goddess Brigid, who is said to have been imprisoned in Ben Nevis by the Calleagh, the winter hag. She is then freed from the mountain at the beginning of spring and the flowers start to bloom to welcome her back. Imbolc was believed to be the day the Calleagh gathers her firewood for the rest of the winter. Legend has it that if she wishes to make the winter last a good while longer, she will make sure the weather on Imbolc is bright and sunny so that she can gather plenty of firewood.
We did have a lovely day in Glasgow so that means winter will last a while longer! But I’m not complaining about these crisp cool days.
As with every change of season this is a great time to pause, check in and reflect, and I share free journal prompts to help with this.
I’m trying something new this year and I plan to record a Yoga Nidra meditation for each Sabbat in the wheel of the year, to deepen your practice and get into the headspace for journaling. Let me know what you think!
